From August 4th to 9th, Prof. Tacke, Head of the Department of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at Charité–Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany, was invited to Yancheng Third People’s Hospital as an international visiting professor and conducted a one-week academic exchange activity. During his visit, Prof. Tacke engaged in in-depth exchanges with the hospital through a series of activities, including ward rounds, surgical guidance, discussions on department management, research-themed seminars, complex case discussions, and public lectures. The two parties also jointly established the first "Sino-German Communication Center for Gastroenterology" in Yancheng. Additionally, Prof. Tacke attended the 2025 Yangtze River Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Conference as a specially invited international guest. Prof. Tacke is a renowned expert in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology in Germany, having rich clinical experience and remarkable academic achievements. The interdisciplinary research project on Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) (2025-2029), conducted by his department in collaboration with hospitals in Dresden and Tübingen, has received a national funding of approximately 14 million euros. As the leader of many working groups of multiple guidelines, Prof. Tacke has been awarded the title of "Highly Cited Researcher" for consecutive years. The team he leads has over 100 doctors and researchers, and he has unique insights on department management and talent cultivation. DAI Zhenyu, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Yancheng Third People’s Hospital, together with the hospital’s leadership team and the gastroenterology team led by Director Yue Hongqin, attached great importance to this exchange activity. In-depth discussions were held between the two parties in the fields of clinical practice, innovations on scientific research, and talent cultivation. The gastroenterology team benefited greatly from Prof. Tacke’s rigorous academic attitude and profound knowledge, while Prof. Tacke was deeply impressed by the team’s spirit of modesty, eagerness to learn, diligence and pragmatism. Amidst the intensive academic exchanges, the gastroenterology team had the opportunity to accompany Prof. Tacke to experience the unique wetland scenery in Yancheng, visiting the Chinese Milu Park and the Chinese Sea-Salt Museum, and to taste local cuisine. It is worth mentioning that in March this year, Dr. GE from the Department of Gastroenterology of the hospital visited Prof. Tacke’s department as a visiting fellow for 6 months, focusing on learning advanced endoscopic techniques from Germany. This exchange model combining "introducing foreign experts" and "sending Chinese doctors abroad for learning" will effectively promote the improvement of medical standards in China’s second and third-tier cities, drive the balanced development of regional medical levels and ultimately achieve the goal of enabling local people to access high-quality medical services at their doorstep.
