July 24 - 25, Prof. Wolf Petersen, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at Martin Luther Hospital Berlin, Vice President for Germany of the German-Austrian-Swiss Society for Orthopaedic-Traumatological Sports Medicine (GOTS), and Former President of the German Knee Society, visited Luoyang Orthopedic-Traumatological Hospital of Henan Province (Henan Provincial Orthopedic Hospital) as an International Visiting Professor. On the afternoon of July 24, Prof. Petersen visited the hospital's history museum, where he learned about the institution's more than 230-year history, its unique heritage in Traditional Chinese Orthopedics, and its overall clinical and academic strengths. He also toured the Clinical Skills Training Center before delivering a series of lectures on Revision of ACL reconstruction, Chronic PCL injuries, and multiligamentous injuries of the knee. The seminar room was filled to capacity, reflecting the strong enthusiasm of Chinese orthopaedic surgeons for advanced knee surgery education. On July 25, Prof. Petersen led a ten-hour marathon osteotomy workshop. Sixty participants completed the full-day program, which combined theoretical lectures, case discussions, and hands-on sawbone workshop. At the conclusion of the workshop, Prof. Petersen presented official certificates issued by the International Knee Academy to participants who had successfully completed both the online curriculum and the onsite training, marking the successful completion of the course. The collaboration between Gloryren and Prof. Petersen began in early 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when almost all international academic activities were suspended, Prof. Petersen, then President of the German Knee Society, initiated the International Knee Day, a global online academic event. For three consecutive years, Gloryren served as the exclusive co-organizer in China, establishing satellite venues in 12 hospitals across 10 Chinese cities and livestreaming the academic sessions simultaneously with Germany. During this period, 45 Chinese orthopaedic surgeons presented on the international stage, and the program attracted more than 570,000 online viewers. In 2026, Prof. Petersen joined leading international knee surgeons in founding the International Knee Academy and launched its comprehensive online curriculum. The program systematically covers the core principles and latest advances in knee surgery, enabling young surgeons worldwide to access high-quality education regardless of geographical barriers. Since its launch, the curriculum has received highly positive feedback from participants. Over the years, Prof. Petersen has welcomed eight Chinese fellows and supervised three Chinese MD doctoral candidates through his collaboration with Gloryren. He firmly believes that the true value of medical education lies not only in knowledge transfer, but also in cultivating the next generation of leading surgeons. In recent years, Prof. Petersen has visited China on multiple occasions as an International Visiting Professor. In 2024, he was invited to Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In December 2025, he visited Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where he participated in clinical teaching, case discussions, and academic exchanges with Chinese orthopaedic teams. His visit to Luoyang Orthopedic-Traumatological Hospital of Henan Province represents another important milestone in his long-term commitment to promoting Sino-German collaboration in knee surgery. From pioneering online exchanges during the pandemic, to repeatedly returning to China for onsite teaching, and now expanding global access through online education, Prof. Petersen has remained dedicated to providing young surgeons with opportunities to learn from international experts and grow together with colleagues around the world. As Prof. Petersen said: "We hope this is only the beginning of a growing global community of surgeons committed to advancing knee surgery through continuous learning and collaboration." Medicine knows no borders, and medical progress thrives through collaboration. On November 14 - 15, 2026, Prof. Petersen will return to China to participate in the 6th Sino-Euro Global Forum on Hospital Management Specialty Construction and Talent Cultivation in Wuxi. Together with hospital administrators, department leaders, and young physicians, he will discuss key topics including hospital management, specialty development, medical education, and international talent cultivation. The forum is expected to serve as another important platform for strengthening Sino-German medical collaboration and creating more opportunities for Chinese physicians to engage with the global medical community.
