During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period, Fan Li, a renowned statesman, and Xi Shi, a famous beauty of ancient China, once sailed across Lihu Lake, leaving behind a timeless romantic legend. During the Qing Dynasty, the emperors made six and seven visits respectively to Jiangnan (the region south of the Yangtze River) and visited Jichang Garden, a masterpiece widely regarded as the pinnacle of classical Chinese garden art. In Huishan Ancient Town stands the ancestral shrine of Fan Zhongyan, a renowned statesman and literary figure of the Northern Song Dynasty. Since childhood, we have grown up with his timeless words: “Be the first to worry about the troubles of the world, and the last to enjoy its happiness.”Living by Lihu Lake in this ancient Jiangnan city, I am only three kilometers away from Donglin Academy, where its founder Gu Xiancheng wrote: “The wind’s murmur, rain’s patter and scholar’s chants all reaches my ears; Family affairs, state affairs and all under heaven’s affairs all concern my heart.” The story of Mr. Cao Yu’s masterpiece Thunderstorm is set in Zhouxinli, Wuxi. The Rong brothers, patriotic industrialists, left behind the business philosophy of “integrity, pragmatism, and innovation,” as well as their profound commitment to “strengthening the nation through industry and serving society,” which has become a precious spiritual legacy for us. Mr. Rong Yiren supported the nation by donating aircraft during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, providing supplies during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, and contributing financially and through dedicated efforts to the founding of New China.
