Prof. Chen Yongsong, President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College
Prof. Dürr expressed his thankfulness to the hospital for inviting him to participate in this conference. In his lecture, he firstly gave a brief introduction of the hospital of LUM, then he shared his experience in treating soft tissue sarcoma of the limbs from how to decide the margin to how to repair the neuromuscular and wound by elaborating many typical cases of soft tissue sarcomas. He also introduced the diagnosis and treatment procedures for soft tissue sarcomas and emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary and individualized treatment for different kinds of soft tissue sarcomas.
Prof. Hu shared a case of fibrosarcoma on the upper limb. He introduced patient’s clinical symptoms, imaging and pathological results in detail and stressed that they play an important role in the diagnosis process. He also noted that the neoadjuvant chemotherapy before surgery could greatly reduce the size of the tumor, and patient’s limb function could be restored since important vascular nerves were saved during the surgery, and the bone invaded by the tumor was handled well with microwave treatment. Prof. Hu said after the surgery, the patient also received chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and no tumor recurrence and lung metastasis were found during his follow-up visit. Now the patient can do some light manual labor and even ride the motorcycle. The surgery did greatly improve the patient’s life quality.

In the discussion session, Prof. Dürr actively interacted with Prof. Hu and one by one answered Prof. Hu’s questions about tumor recurrence, postoperative management and limb function restoration, and generously shared his opinions on those topics.
At the end of the meeting, Prof. Hu expressed his admiration to Prof. Dürr for his wonderful academic sharing and envisioned to have more opportunities to discuss with Prof. Dürr in the field of bone and soft tissue tumors.
