This is the tragedy of China's healthcare

今天晚上看到四川华西医院2026年的博士录取的目录，有的医生是我认识的人，他的科研能力真的很差，居然也被华西录取了，你说这些人真的是用心在为国家招德才兼备的医生吗？过去有个很优秀的医生在国内的博士复试有80分也没被录取，他们录取了一个一篇文章都没有的医生。后来他去找工作也是这样。他妈妈因为这两件事情就彻底气倒了，她妈妈说肿瘤就是在那时候起来的，所以他只能让自己变得足够有能力。现在他做到了。中国好多医生只是一味按时上下班，领着死工资“等死”，他们也不敢对未来有任何憧憬，包括对学科发展和中国医疗进步的希望。一个普通医生，干不过一个主委的一句话。尽管主委的学生什么都不行。这就是中国医疗的悲哀。

Tonight, I saw the 2026 Doctor of Medicine (MD) admission list of West China Hospital. Some of the doctors on the list are people I know personally. Their research ability is honestly very poor, yet they were admitted. It makes me wonder whether these people are really making an effort to recruit doctors who are both competent and virtuous for the country. There was once an excellent doctor who scored 80 points in a Doctor of Medicine (MD) interview in China but was still not admitted. Instead, they admitted a doctor who did not even have a single publication. Later, the same thing happened when he was looking for a job. His mother was so devastated by these two experiences that she was completely crushed. She said that her cancer started around that time. As a result, he could only force himself to become capable enough that no one could overlook him. And now, he has achieved that. Many doctors in China simply clock in, clock out, collect their fixed salaries, and “wait to die.” They do not dare to have any expectations for the future, including hopes for the development of their specialty or for the progress of healthcare in China. An ordinary doctor cannot compete with a single word from a committee chair, even when that chair’s own student is incapable of accomplishing anything. This is the tragedy of China's healthcare.
