Each year, we reach out to more than 5000 doctors across nearly a hundred of cities in China via telephone, engage in face-to-face deep conversation with around 1000 doctors, and carefully select 50 doctors to pursue their MD or PHD degree in Germany. We conduct an evaluation and rating every six months. Doctors who are highly capable and grateful are classified as Class A; class B for doctors who are less competent but have a grateful heart; class C for doctors who are highly capable but lack gratitude; and those who are neither capable nor grateful fall into Class D. Over the last five years, we have selected 190 excellent doctors to pursue their doctoral degree in Germany, among which, 85% of doctors are rated as class A, ten doctors are in class D, two are in class C. Even though you have finished your doctoral degree or postdoctoral research, you are still thousands miles away from true success. Throughout your career, you need a lot of life changers to support and help you. If you believe that studying for a doctoral degree in Germany equals success and forget to be grateful to people who helped you, people around you will sense it. And gradually, fewer and fewer people will no longer come to help or support you, making true success in your career almost impossible. Medicine is a special profession. Skill alone is not enough to bring success. You need help, resources, and opportunities from your life changers, who prioritize to give such things to person who has a grateful heart. If you don’t have it, then you will lose it. We’ve interviewed with 30 of the greatest doctors in the world over the past five years. Each of their achievements was never just about ability. Every success they achieved is underpinned by the life changers who offered them support and guidance. Yesterday, we received the employment contract for LIU Jia from Capital Medical University, who will pursue her MD degree in Germany. This contract was applied by Prof. Bähr, the Director of the Heart & Brain Center Göttingen (HBCG) of University Medical Center Göttingen, which offers a monthly salary of €1,500 throughout her three-year doctoral study, along with insurance and full benefits. Even more impressively, during his visit to Wuxi People’s Hospital, Prof. Bähr took time out of his busy schedule to revise Liu Jia’s manuscript. Prof. Bähr is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. He has mentored two of the most renowned doctors in all of Germany: one is Prof. Wick, a Member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty Heidelberg of Heidelberg University, Chariman of the Head Hospital of Heidelberg University Hospital; the other is Prof. Gerloff, Medical Director of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. Both of them were Prof. Bähr’s mentees. That’s why it is crucial to choose the right one as your doctoral supervisor. Liu Jia is exactly the kind of person who is both capable and grateful. That’s why she earned this extraordinary opportunity. This is not just about a €1,500 monthly salary, but also her ticket to the top academic circles, the symbol of recognition from a member of German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, and a result of the goodwill she inspires in others. Had she not been a person of gratitude, we would never have gone through so much effort to secure this for her. After all, why should I help someone who doesn’t even know how to say thank you? Why would I offer my own network and resources to someone who lacks gratitude? In fact, there are not many doctors with grateful hearts in the medical field. Most of them tend to attribute their success solely to` their own capability and ignore the help they’ve received from their life changers. They spend too much time learning English and clinical techniques, but neglect the art of human connection, as well as the most important standard for being a person in this world.
