The 6th Sino-Euro Global Forum on Hospital Management, Specialty Construction & Talent Cultivation 2026 will be held in Wuxi, China, from November 14 to 15, 2026. Prof. Heiss, Head of the Department of Trauma Surgery, Hand Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at University Hospital Giessen and Marburg (UKGM), Campus Giessen, Germany, is specially invited to the forum as a member of the European Presidium. The Specialty Construction Session of this year’s forum will be devoted to Orthopaedics, where Prof. Heiss will engage in discussions with presidents of Grade III Class A hospitals in China, academic leaders in orthopaedics, and young doctors on orthopaedic specialty development and talent cultivation. Prof. Heiss has been extensively involved in clinical practice and research in the fields of trauma surgery, hand surgery, and reconstructive surgery, with a strong emphasis on integrating clinical practice with basic research. University Hospital Giessen and Marburg (UKGM) not only has a comprehensive clinical care system, but also houses an Institute of Anatomy, a Biomedical Research Center, and a dedicated research building for basic scientific research, providing a comprehensive platform for translating clinical challenges into research projects. In June 2025 and January 2026, the Gloryren Team visited Prof. Heiss at University Hospital Giessen and Marburg (UKGM), Campus Giessen, Germany, on two occasions and engaged in in-depth exchanges with Prof. Heiss and his research team. During the visits, Prof. Heiss led the team on a tour of the hospital’s basic research facility for trauma surgery and provided a detailed introduction to its research platforms, laboratory equipment, and the research directions of its various research groups. Currently, approximately 40 to 50 researchers and medical students are conducting research at the facility. The research team is organized into multiple groups according to different research areas and maintains close collaborations with other universities and industry partners across Germany. The laboratory adheres to a clinically driven research approach, translating practical challenges encountered in surgical practice into research projects, seeking solutions through basic research, and subsequently translating research findings back into clinical practice. In terms of talent cultivation, Gloryren has recommended a number of excellent young doctors to Prof. Heiss’s team. Mr. Ding, from Yantai, Shandong Province, and Mr. Weng, from Zunyi, Guizhou Province, joined Prof. Heiss’s Department in January and May 2026, respectively, to undertake their MD (Dr. med.) doctoral research. At University Hospital Giessen and Marburg (UKGM), they have direct access to an internationally oriented research platform and receive systematic research training under the supervision of Prof. Heiss and his team. Meanwhile, Mr. Yang from Luoyang Orthopedic-Traumatological Hospital of Henan Province is also scheduled to join Prof. Heiss’s team for a clinical fellowship. Through doctoral training and clinical fellowships, an increasing number of Chinese orthopaedic doctors are gaining the opportunity to enter the clinical and research system of German university hospitals and receive systematic international training. From the development of research platforms to talent cultivation, and from clinical fellowships to doctoral programs, the collaboration between Gloryren and Prof. Heiss’s team is gradually deepening. At this forum, Prof. Heiss will share with his Chinese colleagues the experience of German university hospitals in the development of orthopaedic research platforms, the translation of clinical research into practice, and talent cultivation.
